Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion laptop, and suddenly my camera stopped working. When I open Zoom or the Camera app, it says No camera found. I haven’t dropped the laptop or changed any settings recently.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Hi @George-Anthony

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when your camera suddenly stops working—especially when everything else seems normal.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help bring it back to life.

Step 1: Check Camera Privacy Settings

Windows may have disabled access after an update:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  2. Make sure Camera access is turned On.
  3. Scroll down and ensure Let apps access your camera is also On.
  4. Confirm that apps like Zoom or Camera are allowed to use the camera.

Step 2: Use the Keyboard Camera Toggle

Some HP Pavilion models include a camera kill switch or function key:

  • Look for a physical switch near the webcam or a key with a camera icon (often F8 or F10).
  • Press it once to toggle the camera on.
  • If it’s a physical shutter, slide it open.

Step 3: Check Device Manager

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
    • If you see your camera listed, right-click and choose Enable device.
    • If it’s missing or has a yellow warning icon:
      • Right-click and choose Uninstall device.
      • Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 4: Update the Camera Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click your camera and select Update driver.
  2. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  3. If no update is found, visit:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
    • Enter your HP Pavilion model.
    • Download and install the latest camera or imaging device driver.

Step 5: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Press the power button and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  4. Select Component Tests > Camera and follow the prompts.

Let me know your exact Pavilion model if you'd like help locating the correct driver or if the camera still isn’t detected after these steps. I’ll guide you further.
