My HP victus 16-r0xxx gaming laptop is draining so fast that it last me 2 hours on a normal light usage of playing music without the internet and on internet with browsing its less . I bought it 2 days ago.  I had updated every software on the PC, the only thing I haven't done is recalibrating the battery.  Any idea please

Hi @Figna,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Battery life issues on a new laptop can be quite frustrating. Given that your HP Victus 16-r0xxx is very new and you're already experiencing significant battery drain, here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Recalibrate the Battery:

  • Discharge the battery completely: Use the laptop until it shuts down due to low battery.
  • Charge the battery to 100%: Make sure the laptop is turned off while charging.
  • Repeat the process: Discharge and charge the battery fully 2-3 times to recalibrate it.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
  • Adjust the power and sleep settings to more conservative options.
  • Under Additional power settings, select Power Saver mode.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure that the BIOS is up-to-date by checking the HP Support website.
  • Update all drivers, particularly the graphics driver, from the HP Support site or via Device Manager.

Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs:

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and go to the Startup tab.
  • Disable programs that are not necessary to run at startup.

Reduce Background Processes:

  • Check Task Manager for background processes that consume significant resources.
  • Close unnecessary applications and processes.

Adjust Display Settings:

  • Lower the screen brightness.
  • Set a shorter time for the display to turn off when inactive.
  • Disable keyboard backlighting if not needed.

Battery Health Check:

  • Run a battery report to check its health. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type:

powercfg /batteryreport

  • Review the report generated in the directory specified in the command prompt.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Run the HP Support Assistant to check for any system health issues or updates you might have missed.

Windows Power Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the Power troubleshooter.

Reset the System:

  • As a last resort, consider a system reset to eliminate any software issues causing the drain. Make sure to back up your data before performing a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
