HP Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My laptop only charges when it is switched off. It wasn’t always like this. One day suddenly it would charge until a 100% then it would stop charging, at one point it would only charge after I switched it back on and off and now it only charges when it is off. When it is switched on the light glows white.

@gabby-anne,

I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is not charging when the computer is powered on.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

I tried to do what you said but it says the ac adapter has to be connected in order to update the BIOS and my laptop doesn’t recognize the AC adapter when it is switched on and the only way I can update it is if it is powered on. Is there anything else I can do?

@gabby-anne,

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

Here is how you do it.

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

Let me know how it goes.
