Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop was working fine until I left it for an hour and came back and the screen was black, the power button wasnt working the keyboard wasnt working and mouse either. The power light remained on and I heard the fan still running but it shut off, it’s been almost 2 days like this and I don’t know what to do, I’ve tried hard resetting unplug and plug back in, my only remaining option is to remove the battery entirely but I’d have to open the laptop up. The model is 15z-ef1000

Hi @Jazzzzzz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding laptop being unresponsive and locked up!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Your HP 15z-ef1000 laptop is completely unresponsive, but the power light is on and the fan was running. This suggests it's stuck in a deep sleep state or a hardware failure. Try these steps before opening it up:

Perform a Hard Reset (Again)

Since you’ve tried a hard reset before, try this with a longer duration:

  1. Unplug the charger.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
  3. If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out and wait 5 minutes.
  4. Plug in the charger (without the battery, if possible) and try turning it on.

Use a Different Charger or Power Source

  • Try a different wall outlet.
  • Use another compatible HP charger (if available).
  • If the battery is faulty, powering on with only the charger should still work.

Check for Caps Lock Blinking or Beep Codes

  • Press Caps Lock and see if the light blinks.
  • If it does, count the blinks or beeps and check HP's diagnostic codes.

External Display Test (Check for Screen Failure)

  1. Connect your laptop to a TV or external monitor via HDMI.
  2. Press Win + P and try selecting a display option (if possible).
  3. If the external display works, the screen might be faulty.

Attempt a Forced BIOS Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop (if possible).
  2. Press and hold Win + B, then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. Release only the power button but keep holding Win + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.

Let me know which step worked for you! 😊
