Hi @Alhayy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's USB ports are intermittently working, and you're experiencing issues with your mouse disconnecting, there are several potential reasons for this problem. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Check the Mouse and USB Port:

  • Try using the mouse on another computer to see if the issue persists.
  • Test the USB port with another device to ensure that the port is functioning properly.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure your laptop's USB drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the HP website, finding your laptop model, and downloading the latest USB drivers.

Power Management Settings:

  • Disable USB selective suspend:
    • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
    • Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section.
    • Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select "Properties."
    • Go to the "Power Management" tab and uncheck the option that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your operating system is up to date by installing the latest Windows updates.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there's a BIOS or UEFI firmware update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the system firmware can sometimes resolve hardware-related issues.

Try Another USB Port:

  • If possible, try plugging the mouse into a different USB port on your laptop. This can help determine if the issue is specific to one port.

Device Manager Cleanup:

  • In the Device Manager, uninstall all USB controllers, then restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the drivers automatically.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a malware scan on your laptop to ensure that malicious software is not causing the issue.

Power Supply:

  • If you're using a laptop, make sure it's connected to a stable power source. Power fluctuations can sometimes cause USB connectivity issues.

System Restore:

  • If the problem started recently, consider using the System Restore feature to revert your system to a point before the issue began.

Remember to back up your important data before performing major system changes or updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
