My HP Victus 16 started having a problem waking up from sleep mode a while ago. I suspect that the cause is a BIOS update, because even though many Windows updates have been installed since then, the issue has not been fixed. I tried all the solutions I found on the internet, but none of them worked. However, I came to the following conclusion: when I try to wake the computer by pressing keys, the lights on my keyboard and mouse turn on, but the system does not detect any input at all.

In Device Manager, I cannot find the power options to set “Allow this device to wake the computer” for the keyboard. I also tried with an external keyboard with the suggested power settings, but it did not wake up either. In short, after the BIOS update, my computer does not detect any inputs while it is in sleep mode. Because of this, whenever the computer goes into sleep mode, I have to force a hard shutdown by long pressing the power button and then restart it.

I waited for a new BIOS update to be released, but HP has not released any BIOS updates for months. Not being able to use sleep mode affects my PC experience very negatively.

Does anyone have any solution suggestions?

Note: I have tried all the solutions currently available on the internet; none of them worked.

Hi @saridayi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

Does the laptop wake up if you press the power button briefly (not a long press), or does it stay frozen until you force‑shutdown?

When the system is asleep, do you see the power LED blinking (indicating sleep) or is it solid/on?

Did this start immediately after a specific BIOS version update, or did it appear gradually?

Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Does the issue happen on both battery and AC power?

There are a few more troubleshooting steps that sometimes help with BIOS‑related sleep issues:

1.  Reset BIOS settings to default

Even if the BIOS version is the culprit, corrupted settings can make wake‑from‑sleep fail.

  • Restart the laptop
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS
  • Look for Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults
  • Save and exit

This won’t erase Windows or files.

3. Turn off USB selective suspend

Sometimes Windows cuts power to USB devices too aggressively.

  • Go to Control Panel → Power Options
  • Click Change plan settings
  • Change advanced power settings
  • Expand USB settings
  • Set USB selective suspend to Disabled

4. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can interfere with sleep/wake behavior.

  • Control Panel → Power Options
  • “Choose what the power buttons do”
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup

5. Check HP’s “Wake on Keyboard” setting in BIOS

Some Victus models have a BIOS toggle for waking from USB devices.
If it’s disabled, Windows won’t show the “Allow this device to wake the computer” option.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Deep_World,

To answer your questions:

  • I'm using the latest version of Windows 11, and my PC is always up to date.

  • When the laptop goes into sleep mode, the LED starts blinking. Pressing the power button turns on the keyboard backlight, but the system never wakes up, and the power LED still keeps blinking like nothing happened.

  • The issue persists whether the laptop is on battery or plugged into power.

This started after a BIOS update, though I’m not sure if it happened immediately or gradually.
Also, my BIOS has very limited options—it's the most basic interface I’ve seen. There’s no "Wake on Keyboard" setting, and I’ve already reset the BIOS settings.

I’ve followed all your previous recommendations, but the problem still remains. I really wish I could roll back the BIOS update safely, as nothing else seems to fix the issue.

Thanks for any further help!

Hi @saridayi,

Thanks for your response.

In the meantime, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps that may help if you haven’t tried them yet :

  1. Disable Fast Startup
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
    • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
    • Uncheck Turn on fast startup, then save and restart
  2. Check Windows Power & Sleep Settings
    • Open Settings > System > Power & Battery
    • Set Sleep to Never temporarily and test whether the issue still occurs
    • This can help confirm whether the problem is strictly sleep-state related
  3. Update or Reinstall Chipset & Intel/AMD Management Drivers
    • Download the latest chipset, and power management drivers directly from the HP support page (not Windows Update)
    • Reinstalling these can sometimes restore proper sleep-wake behavior after a BIOS update
  4. Check Device Manager Power Settings
    • In Device Manager, expand Keyboards and Human Interface Devices
    • For each device, open Properties > Power Management
    • Ensure Allow this device to wake the computer is checked where available

I hope this helps.

Hi @Deep_World

Unfortunately, the previously suggested steps did not resolve the issue. However, I noticed a potential cause related to the BIOS update.

The most recent BIOS update on my system was downloaded and installed from HP’s official website. Upon reviewing the support page again, I observed that HP currently provides driver and firmware support for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 24H2 only.

During the last BIOS update, I installed the BIOS/firmware version intended for Windows 11 24H2, while my system is now running Windows 11 version 25H2. I am concerned that this mismatch may be causing a compatibility or communication issue between the BIOS firmware and the operating system.

Could you please advise on the recommended next steps in this situation? Additionally, I would like to understand why software and firmware support is not yet available for Windows 11 version 25H2, despite it being the latest release.

I appreciate your assistance.
