HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!  I'm really new here but I'm hoping I can get some help here.  I have an HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC and I've had it since 2014.  Within the past 3 months, I've started to get these notifications on my computer that say "This application requires one of the versions of the .NET Framework : v4.0.30319.  Do you want to install this .NET Framework version now?"  And every time I agree to download the newest version, it will start downloading and give me the following error.  "Your installation will not occur.  See below for reasons why." and below it says  ".NET Framework 4.8 or a later update is already installed on this computer."  The programs it's referring to for the .NET framework update are for Avira (my anti-virus) and HPWarrantyChecker.exe.  And because it's not letting me download any new versions, I keep on getting these pop-ups on my computer requesting the update every five minutes and I just have to keep on closing them because there's nothing it will let me do except keep on cancelling the download.  Can anyone please help me with this?  It's getting really annoying having to close out these update requests every five minutes.  Thank you!

Hi @etgutt96

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the .Net Framework update.

Let's try these steps -

1) In the search box, type and open Turn Windows Features on or off

2) Check the settings for both .NET Framework 4.5 (or later) and .NET Framework 3.5.

3) Click on Ok to save the changes and restart the computer.

Also, try repairing it -

1) In the search box, type and open Apps & Features and then click on Programs and Features.

2) Right click on the Microsoft .Net Framework and click on Change > Repair.

3) Restart the computer when you are prompted to.

If the issue still persists, uninstall the Microsoft .Net Framework and try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hey Asmita!  Thank you so much for your reply.  I have tried all the things you suggest.

So starting with your first suggestion, I saw that >net Framework was not full turned on (the check boxes next to them were only filled in but not checked) so I adjusted them so they were both checked and restarted my computer.  The problem still persisted so I went onto your next suggestion.

So I went to see if I could try repairing it.  I looked through the entire list of programs on my computer to try and find Microsoft .NET Framework and it was nowhere to be seen on that list.  I even tried searching it to uninstall it and nothing pulled up so I wasn't able to repair it.  I moved on over to your third suggestion.

I checked for updates for my computer and there was one that actually mentioned .NET Framework.  I downloaded the update and updated my computer.  The problem is still here.  Still the same pop-ups and now it's asking about yet another program called HPCEE.exe and its need for a .NET Framework update.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks again for your suggestions!  I would appreciate more!

I'd suggest try creating a new user account and check -

1. Tap the Windows icon.
2. Select Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Select Family & other users.
5. Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7. Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
8. Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9. Tap the Windows icon.
10. Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11. Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

Let me know.

Thanks for the suggestion!  I just tried it and the same notifications are still popping up on my usual and also the new account I just created.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks for replying @etgutt96

Please try restoring the computer -

1. Save any open files and close all open programs.

2. In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.

3. On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.

4. Click Next.

5. Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.

6. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

7. Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems.

8. Click Yes in the warning that appears.

9. System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

Let me know how that goes.

Just tried doing that last night.  I restored my computer and the messages still pop up.

This message is triggered by the application that you are using. Could you please check your anti-virus software if you have an option to disable this message?

Let me know.

I just ran my antivirus (Malwarebytes) and it found only 14 "potentially hazardous" files.  I removed them and the messages are still popping up.  I didn't see any place where I could disable them.

I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding this issue, they should be able to take a remote access to resolve this.
