HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0046tx

Serial number:
#
Product number:
7LG81PA

Hello,
I am experiencing a persistent "Code 43" error with my integrated NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card after upgrading my HP Pavilion to Windows 11.
System details:
  • Laptop model: HP Pavilion (please specify the full model number if you know it, e.g., 15-ec2xxx)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
  • OS: Windows 11
Problem description:
In Device Manager, the NVIDIA card shows a yellow exclamation mark with the status "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." This is preventing the dedicated GPU from working, and I am stuck using the integrated graphics.
Troubleshooting steps already taken:
I have tried the following without success:
  • Updating drivers: I attempted to update the driver through Windows Update and also downloaded the latest driver directly from the NVIDIA website. In both cases, the error returned.
  • Clean driver install with DDU: I performed a complete uninstallation of all display drivers using the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool while in Safe Mode. I then reinstalled the latest NVIDIA driver from a fresh download, but the error remains.
  • Checking HP Support: I have checked the official HP support website for Windows 11 drivers for my laptop model, but no NVIDIA-specific driver is available.
  • Rolling back drivers: I attempted to roll back the driver in Device Manager, but the option was not available or did not resolve the issue.
  • Restart and Power Reset: I have tried basic restarts, as well as a full power reset by disconnecting the battery.
Specific concerns:
Since the issue only appeared after the Windows 11 update and persists despite clean installs of the latest NVIDIA-provided drivers, it seems there may be a compatibility issue between my HP-specific hardware and the standard Windows 11 NVIDIA drivers. As a manufacturer-certified driver is not available from HP, I need advice on how to proceed.
Request for assistance:
Could you please provide guidance or a specific driver version that is known to work with this HP model on Windows 11? I would appreciate any assistance or insight the community can offer.
Thank you,

Nvidia Graphics Card Error 43 - HP Support Community - 9321348
This solution didn't work for me at all. You guys don't even have updated software drivers for the windows 11 for NVidia which is very bad for your company reputation. As a world's leading company you should offer help and support for all of these issues with no charges at all. Since it comes pre embedded inside the laptop give a software update asap. I tried the above method and it didnt work

Hi @Harryitsme

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

My sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. We'd hate for you to be stuck in a situation like this. Because you matter to us.

The persistent Code 43 error on your HP Pavilion with NVIDIA GTX 1050 after upgrading to Windows 11 is likely caused by a mismatch between generic NVIDIA drivers and HP’s hardware-specific firmware. Installing a compatible legacy driver and disabling hybrid graphics temporarily may restore GPU functionality.

Step-by-step recovery for Code 43 on GTX 1050

1. Install HP-Certified NVIDIA Driver for Windows 11

Even if not listed under Windows 11 24H2, the 22H2 driver remains compatible.

  • Visit the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk Series Drivers page.
  • Under Driver – Graphics, download the NVIDIA Graphics Driver dated 2021 or later.
  • Install it using Device Manager > Update Driver > Browse my computer and point to the extracted folder.

This ensures firmware-level compatibility with HP’s EC and BIOS.

2. Disable Hybrid Graphics (if supported)

Some HP Pavilion models allow switching to discrete-only mode:

  • Restart and press Esc > F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Graphics Configuration.
  • Set Switchable Graphics to Disabled or Discrete Only.
  • Save and exit.

This forces the system to use the GTX 1050 exclusively, bypassing hybrid mode conflicts.

3. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics

Check for hardware faults:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run Component Tests > Graphics.
  • Note any error codes or skipped tests.

4. Use Older NVIDIA Driver (Version 472.12)

This version is known to work with GTX 1050 on HP systems:

Avoid GeForce Experience during installation—use the standalone driver package.

Let me know how the system responds after these steps—I’ll guide you further if needed.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for getting back to me, but unfortunately none of the suggested solutions worked.

First of all, the link you provided for “Visit the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk Series Drivers page” in Step 1 doesn’t open or leads to an error. So, I went ahead and manually searched for my laptop model....

HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0046tx (Product No: 7LG81PA) ...and found that HP only provides drivers for Windows 10, not Windows 11
.IMG_6E0AA614-3A15-44ED-958A-62E1FAC3D45A.JPEG

Still, I downloaded and installed the Windows 10 NVIDIA driver, checked that it was installed, restarted my laptop (even tried after using DDU to remove previous NVIDIA software), but the issue persisted.

For thoroughness, sp132804 I even tried installing the latest available NVIDIA drivers for similar HP 15-dk series models (such as sp161810 for 15-dk1000 and sp141240 for 15-dk1000ne), but those didn’t work either.

Moving on to Steps 2 and 3 ...I don’t have the BIOS or graphics configuration options you mentioned (screenshots attached).

As for Step 4, that link also didn’t work.NVIDIA Driver Archive – Version 472.12.
I searched for the required installer manually and tried running it, but it showed compatibility errors and caused my computer to crash.

IMG_9496.jpeg

Thankfully, I had created a system restore point beforehand, so I was able to recover it.
IMG_9498.jpeg
As you can see the 472.12 version  that you mentioned that was the cause of the issue.
and you can see the attached log files below in text

I strongly suggest that HP double-checks the driver links and solution steps provided in this thread. It seems the support instructions may not have been properly verified for my specific model, and following them nearly crashed my system.

Please review the driver compatibility for HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0046tx (7LG81PA) and provide an updated, working solution for Windows 11 users. It’s disappointing that a major brand like HP still hasn’t released proper NVIDIA driver support for such a popular model on Windows 11.

Thank you.
Harry

Let me be very clear — this problem is not an isolated case. The NVIDIA GTX 1050 error code 43 issue on HP Pavilion laptops has been widely reported by users, and it’s clearly the result of HP’s driver, BIOS, or firmware incompatibility with recent Windows updates .. not user error.

I absolutely should not be expected to pay to fix something that stems from HP’s own software and support policies. This falls under the company’s responsibility to maintain proper driver support for its hardware.

If HP chooses to treat this as a paid repair or refuses to provide an official solution, that will reflect extremely poorly on the company’s commitment to customer support and product reliability. I can assure you many users ..myself included ..would strongly reconsider buying or recommending HP products in the future if this kind of widespread issue is ignored or monetized.

Please escalate this internally and provide a clear, no-cost resolution path for affected customers.
