I don't know when it was done, but a client brought his laptop to me with the complaint that the dvd player was "region locked". I verified it, it's locked to #2 with 0 changes left, but it does have 4 "Vendor" changes left. (Can it be reset this way?)

I had wanted to upgrade the firmware but can't seem to find the "HP Mydrive Utility" ANYWHERE. Google yeilded a few hopeful links, but the content to those links has been removed.

Does this program still exist? Is there a way to get to it? I was thinking of ordering an installation disk for a random dvd burner if it comes bundled. or maybe there's an iso somewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It would be helpful if i posted the dvd burner info im sure? here it is

Hello, @TRU - Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

Going through your post, I understand that your client’s notebook displays the “region locked” message while using the DVD drive. Also, I am afraid the HP MyDrive utility is unavailable for this PC.

Coming to the issue in hand, are you trying to use the Disc from a different region? Or, was the PC purchased from a different region? Please let me know.

Also, check http://hp.care/2oGJMfJ to understand more about this issue.

Alternatively, go to http://hp.care/2oGEVuM and follow the steps under “Resolving region errors” to find a possible fix for this issue.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂

Firstly thanks for your response! From what i gather it was lent out to a less uh computer literate person who messed with the settings. The dvd drive is now locked to region 2 with 0 changes available. However, it says there are 4 "vendor" changes available. I wanted the utility to try and update the firmware.

You said that the program is unavailable for this system. Is it not compatible or non existent? If its still still around i'd like to give it a try, unless HP has another way to update the firmware?

Hello, @TRU

I ran a search and I also could not find the MyDrive utility 😞

But there is a possible solution here: http://hp.care/2oGEVuM  follow the steps under “Resolving region errors”

To change the drive region setting, do the following steps.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

  2. Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives.

  3. Double-click the name of the disc drive.

    A properties window opens.

  4. Click the DVD Region tab, select a geographic area, and then click OK to make the change.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Good luck 🙂

No go. That was the first thing i tried. It won't let me change it. I'm not at the laptop right now, but if i remember correctly it Says:

User changes: 0 available
Vendor changes: 4 available

Donating like that

@TRU

Hi,

as @Dvortex is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I have read your post comprehensively and understand that the DVD drive is region locked.

I suggest you to reach out to our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the DVD drive.

Hope this information helps. Please keep us posted for any questions. Cheers! 🙂
