HP ZBook 15 G4 Mobile Workstation (ENERGY STAR)
I download directly from hp site and save sp96966.exe   that is date 2019 with   19.3.8.32 Rev A
I tried delete the original once and it forced me to restart my laptop, and it install the same old version.  I am thinking of using update driver option but got stuck as well show image below.  It only sees the folder Mouse-7-28-2025 folder and it does not see sp96966 as executable.
If there is later driver for Synaptics SMBus Touchpad driver, please proved

Hi @Zbook-15-G4,

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Community. I understand that you're trying to update the Synaptics SMBus Touchpad driver on your HP ZBook 15 G4, but the system keeps reinstalling the older version automatically. Let’s try a few steps to fix this:

  1. Uninstall the existing driver completely:

    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.

    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.

    • Right-click the Synaptics Touchpad driver and select Uninstall device.

    • Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device if available, then click Uninstall.

    • Restart your laptop.

  2. Prevent Windows from reinstalling the old driver automatically:

    • Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.

    • Go to the Hardware tab and click Device Installation Settings.

    • Select No (your device might not work as expected) and click Save Changes.

  3. Manually install the downloaded driver:

    • Locate the sp96966.exe file you downloaded from the HP website.

    • Right-click the file and select Run as administrator to start the installation.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions until the setup completes.

  4. Restart the system once more and check if the new driver version is installed correctly under Device Manager → Mice and other pointing devices.

I hope it helps.
