Hello,

I am an IT tech professional with 25 years of corp. IT experience.

I am trying to help a friend that doesn't live near me with a problem with 2 PCs that are the same model number because when they purchased them a very long time ago they purchased one for her and one for her mother through BestBuy.  I need to help her purchase replacement charger adapters but the laptops do not power up and the pics she sent me of the laptops do not show any model numbers/names or SN at all printed on either the machine or on any label.  Both machines were purchased back in 2013 and BB does not go back any further than 2017 for order information.  My friend was able to locate the original emails for the 2 orders and they have the following information on them for the Model and the SKU.   I want to use the HP website to get information on both PCs including a parts list, tech/user guides and download the drivers for both computers as I might wind up having to get the computers from her to troubleshoot them.  I do not live close to her, but I am within a manageable driving distance of her to get them.

As stated the machines are not powering up and we want to start with a basic attempt to get them to power up by purchasing new chargers.  If that doesn't work then I will get both machines from her and take a better look at them.  They are based on Windows 8 and I would like to also if I can get them powered up, back up her data on them.

Can anyone please help me identify where the model number and serial numbers are physically located on them?  Here's the info from the orders:

First Machine:

HP Split 2in1 13334 TouchScreen Laptop 4GB Memory, 128GB Solid State Drive SKU 1799161

Second Machine:

13-M110DX-13.3"/I3-4010Y/4GB/128GB  SKU: 1799161

Thank you.

Hi:

Since both PC's have the same SKU and you have already identified the model of one of them (13-M110DX), below is the link to the parts list which would be applicable to both notebooks:

HP PartSurfer

Support page:

Here's the link to the driver page.

HP Split 13-m110dx x2 PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

HP has retired support for that model, so you have to hunt for user guides doing a general internet search.

I found the service manual pdf from a 3rd party website.

ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online!

I would have no idea where to find the serial number of the notebook.

All I can give you is this general guidance.

Find product and serial numbers for HP PCs, printers, and accessories | HP® Support

Hello,

Thank you for your response and the information.  Regarding the use of the link for the Find product and serial numbers for HP PCs, printers, and accessories | HP® Support I tried that and it had me running around in circles because none of the models shown in the information are the "Split" type of models and therefore those pics and instructions are not helpful.  I tried to use the virtual agent an that also had me running in circles and when I tried to chat with a live agent it dead ended me at demanding as mandatory information that I provide the serial number for the product which was the very exact reason I needed to chat with a live person and since the SN is mandatory it refuses to progress to connecting me to a live agent without it.

So again I need to know visually, physically where on the Split model to locate the serial number since both of the computers will not turn on for me to try to do anything like MSInfo or look at properties for anything in Windows.

Looking forward to your reply.

You're very welcome.

As I replied earlier, I have no idea where to find the physical serial number on the notebook, if one even exists on the case.

Since this is a peer-to-peer forum and we don't work for or represent HP, and I do not own or have any experience working on that model series it is impossible for me to help you with that.

I also don't understand why you need the serial numbers when the other information (drivers, part numbers, service manual) I provided should be all you need to get the PCs up and running again.

The only time I ever needed a serial number for a PC was to order recovery media or get warranty support, and those PCs are long out of warranty.

Hiya again!

The SN are a "me thing"....Prior to going into IT I was an Administrative Assistant for both the Visa USA Credit Card Company in their NYC office that would sell their products and programs to banks (who would then market them to businesses and customers) and then for the Sony Electronics America company working in the importing (Trade Strategy and Compliance Group) sub-group of the main law department.  I developed several file keeping systems that were thorough and detailed and that practice has carried on throughout my life.  Yes, you gave me the most WONDERFUL information, so the SN is just my desire to be thorough and detail oriented in my recordkeeping.

Do you know if HP has any sort of tech support phone number I can call and actually get through to a live person and not be charged for their assistance with this very basic type of assistance that I need?  As stated I tried to use the virtual assistant option to chat with a live person but without the SN it would not let me get go further to get to a person.

Thank you.......
