ProBook 4540s
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Here's my situation:  I need a "Fingerprint Management Application" to bridge between my installed fingerprint reader driver (Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d)) and Windows 7 (which states "The selected fingerprint reader has no management application installed.")  I can't use HP ProtectTools because it seems to install some kind of pre-boot authentication layer.  That's not going to fly since I have to be able to support the laptop via remote session even when users forget their passwords and get locked out.  The fingerprint reader apparently stops working in these cases so the user can't get past the pre-boot auth step.

I guess what I'm looking for is the bare minimum software package that will let the user log into Windows via the fingerprint reader but doesn't involve any kind of pre-boot hooks.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer since the ProtectTools software is what is supposed to be used, would be to try the HP Simplepass application used on consumer class notebooks that come with fingerprint readers.

This package contains the HP SimplePass Identity ProtectionSoftware for the supported notebook models running a supportedoperating system. This software protects identity information andaccount access using the computer owner's fingerprint.
