Hi @chansonsingh

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You can download the newest driver and firmware for the HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock from HP’s official support page here: HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock Software and Driver Downloads.

I understand how frustrating it is when your dock suddenly stops supporting dual displays, especially when everything was working smoothly before. Thank you for already checking your setup and confirming the issue.

Let’s go step by step to restore functionality:

Steps to install the newest driver

  1. Disconnect the dock from your computer and external monitor.
  2. Download the latest driver and firmware from the link above. Choose your operating system (Windows 10 or Windows 11) to ensure compatibility.
  3. Install the driver package by running the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen instructions until installation completes.
  4. Restart your computer to apply changes.
  5. Reconnect the dock and attach your monitor. Wait a few seconds for Windows to detect and configure the displays.

Additional checks

  • Windows Display Settings: Right-click on the desktop, select Display Settings, and confirm that both monitors are detected. Adjust “Extend” or “Duplicate” mode as needed.
  • Cable connections: Ensure the USB-C cable is firmly connected to the PC’s USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Loose or incompatible cables can prevent dual display output.
  • Firmware update: The support page also provides firmware updates. Running the firmware update tool can resolve compatibility issues with newer Windows builds.
  • HP App diagnostics: Open the HP App on your PC, select your dock, and run a diagnostic check to confirm hardware status.

Risks and trade-offs

  • If the dock is connected through a USB-C port that does not support video output, displays will not function even with the newest driver.
  • Some monitors may require DisplayPort or HDMI cables certified for higher resolutions; using older cables can cause detection issues.
  • Firmware updates should be performed with the dock connected directly to the PC (not through hubs or adapters) to avoid interruptions.

By following these steps and installing the latest driver package, your dock should regain the ability to drive both your desktop and HP monitor.
