Need to change old email address on HP.com, which is also my username

I have an old email address on HP.com which is also my username. When I tried to update the username to my new email address, it said that I needed to use a unique combination of letters and numbers. Can I use an email address as my username or do I need to make up a different type of username?

In the case where just you will see the username, you can set any username, but if your username is going to be visible to any one who visit the HP community, the recommendation is to set a different username, because with your email address some evil hackers can do a lot of things so we recommend do not use, or post personal info in public, to avoid that kind of situation where someone can scam you with your info.
