Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion - 15z-cw100 CTO that is just over 2 years old. I began getting alerts that my hard drive was at risk for imminent failure, so I had the drive replaced. They were able to port over most of my files and apps, but were unable to move my MS Office app files over to the new drive. Office came preinstalled on the laptop, so I have no product key I can use to download/reinstall. Is there any way I can restore Office without having to buy a new version all because HP installed a ***bleep*** drive in the computer they sold me?

Welcome to the HP User Community.

When you first set up and registered the Office software on the computer, the registration data was sent to Microsoft.

Microsoft does not typically lose this information.

Try / Consider

Ask Microsoft to help you with your Microsoft / Office Software.

Things that are Microsoft / Office

Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Office are licensed products owned and controlled by Microsoft.

We can help to the extent of providing information to help you understand your options.

Open and Read

 Microsoft - Activate Office

Activate Office using the Activation wizard

Includes “Activate after reinstalling or moving Office”

Installation and License Key Options

Some of the ways to “get” Office Software:

  1. Trial Software that comes with the computer.

An "offer" to try the software, in other words.  The license is NOT included in Trial offers.

  1. Purchase Microsoft Office when you purchase your computer

Look for your license key with your purchase paperwork.

  1. Receive a “free one year subscription to Office 365 when you purchase the computer (quite rare).

If you have trouble with this exact type of “installed” Office before it has expired,

Contact HP Support for recovery options.

  1. Purchase Office separately from Microsoft or other merchant.
