My laptop is saying that I have very storage space. I don't really havd a lot stored on the laptop. No big files, no big gigabytes, nothing. I've emptied the trash, deleted unnecessary waste in the settings,  and honestly, I don't have anything else to delete. But the computer still says it's low on storage. How? Everything has been deleted. Is this a ploy for me to buy a new computer or what? It is a HP windows 10 or 11, I think. It was bought back in 2020. Does anyone have any answers that can help me?

Hi @JasonS101,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that this is not necessarily a sign you need a new HP laptop. Based on the HP guidance provided, low storage can still happen even if you deleted visible files because:

  • Programs may still be installed even if you removed desktop icons or emptied the Recycle Bin.

  • Temporary files can build up over time and continue taking space.

  • The Recycle Bin itself can still be one of the cleanup targets if not fully cleared through cleanup tools.

What you can do

Uninstall programs you no longer use:

  • Deleting a desktop shortcut does not uninstall the program.

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and remove software you do not use.

Run Disk Cleanup:

  • HP’s video explains that temporary files, thumbnails, setup files, and Recycle Bin contents can build up over time.

  • Open Disk Cleanup and let it scan your drive, then select the file types you want removed.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
