Hello,
Hope that I have selected the correct board.
My notebook is regularly updated automatically by Windows 11.
Last night I noticed there was a message on HP dashboard advising me there is an update as below waiting for my notebook.
BIOS SoftPaq : sp150445 version: F.31
I did initially attempt to do this update but lost my nerve as I was unsure what to select in the process so I cancelled it as had no idea what I was doing and I fully realise the BIOS is majorly important and did not wish to cause any errors.
I would appreciate any advice as to whether I can safely leave 'as is' or is there any other way of doing the update which does not involve me guessing what to do at each stage and what to tick?
Thank you

Updating BIOS is always dangerous. If the system is not in warranty it will be costly to repair a failed bios flash.
The bios history for your system goes back far. What bios version do you have?
Version:F.04 Rev.A
Version:F.07 Rev.A
Version:F.08 Rev.A
Version:F.09 Rev.A
Version:F.10 Rev.A
Version:F.11 Rev.A
Version:F.20 Rev.A Version:F.30 Rev.A |
Looking at the above, Update F.11 is the last one that made a hardware improvement. All the newer ones are security related and are needed in industries that are subject to ransom ware attacks. I would not install any of those if I was out of warranty.
Be sure to run diagnostics before any bios update. Tap the ESC key after powering on to run diagnostics. Do not allow any updates if disk or memory fail. If your system does not have BIOS diagnostics then install HP's UEFI diagnostics here.

Thank you for responding but the more I try to understand what my safest and best option is regarding updating BIOS the more I feel like forgetting about it. Technology is now beyond me and I want an easy life.
In answer to your question the BIOS Version/Date is: Insyde F30, 05/07/2023. The laptop was purchased December 2023 and SMBIOS version is 3.4 From memory I never updated the BIOS at all in the 5/6 years I had my previous HP laptop as had no messages suggesting it should be done. I use the laptop as a desktop PC.
Grateful for your time but best I leave things as they are..
