Hi @sjuk25

Since you confirmed the fingerprint reader is not even showing in Device Manager (under Biometric devices), the system cannot communicate with the hardware.

Here is the step-by-step process to get your fingerprint scanner working:

1. Check for the Fingerprint Driver on the HP Support Site

You need to manually download and install the official HP driver for your fingerprint sensor.

  1. Go to the official HP Support website for drivers.

  2. Search for your product: Use the full product name: HP ProBook 445 14 inch G11 Notebook PC or your specific product number (8Z9P8AV).

  3. Find the Fingerprint Driver:

    • Once on your product's driver page, make sure the Operating System is set to Windows 11 (it should ideally detect 24H2).

    • Look for a category like "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" or "Driver-Security".

    • Find the driver with a name like "HP Universal WBF Fingerprint Driver" or one that mentions Synaptics/ELAN/Goodix Fingerprint Sensor. The search results specifically mention a driver that supports the G11 model.

  4. Download and Install:

    • Download the latest version of the fingerprint driver package.

    • Double-click the downloaded file (it will likely be an .exe file) and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.

  5. Restart your laptop.

After restarting, check the Device Manager again. You should now see the Biometric devices category with your fingerprint sensor listed.

2. Check the BIOS/UEFI Settings (Less Likely, but a good check)

Sometimes, the biometric device is disabled in the computer's firmware for security reasons.

  1. Restart your laptop.

  2. Immediately and repeatedly press the F10 key (or sometimes Esc then F10) to enter the BIOS Setup menu.

  3. Navigate through the menu, looking for tabs like Security or System Configuration.

  4. Look for a setting related to Biometrics, Fingerprint Reader, or Security Device.

  5. Make sure this setting is set to Enabled.

  6. Press F10 to Save Changes and Exit.

3. Set Up Windows Hello Fingerprint

Once the driver is installed and the device appears in Device Manager, you can set it up in Windows.

  1. Open Settings (Windows Key + I).

  2. Go to Accounts.

  3. Click on Sign-in options.

  4. Under Ways to sign in, you should now see Windows Hello Fingerprint.

  5. Click Set up and follow the instructions to scan your finger.

If you follow step 1 and the driver installs but the device still doesn't appear, or if you can't find a driver:

  • Run Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. Also, look for "Advanced options" > "Optional updates" as the driver might be listed there.

  • Use HP Support Assistant: Re-open the HP Support Assistant program. Now that you've manually installed one driver, it may "wake up" the system and prompt you to install other missing HP-specific drivers or updates.
