Just bought a Hp Spectre detachable and pretty pleasd with the performance but finding it impossible to use when I have to take it into the office. I can run an external display with usb c - vga adapter through one port and the other for a usb 3 dongle or hub for the mouse but in spite of trying 2 third party usb c hubs (Comsol and Belkin) I can't pass through charge using either of them or run the external display through the hub. This means I'm limited to using the pc on battery and have to disconnect either the display or the mouse to charge.

Surely there has to be a solution to this. I'm tired of returning adapters that don't work to the store. Can anyone advise a hub or dock that will allow pass through charging for the Spectre? I know HP make a dock for the Elite but is that compatible with the Spectre.

Any help appreciated I'm pretty frustrated

Thanks

I have tried so many differnet devices, and quite confidently say - none work as a single port hub.  Very annoying.

This is an incredibly basic requirement. Laptop pc's are generally connected to external displays and mostof us using any graphics packages need to use a mouse. Even the Macbooks with only one port will support pass through charging. Its seems crazy HP wont. Surely they have to fix this or come out with a compaible multi port hub or dock

to avoid using a USB-C port I purchased a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and it works really well. I can connect to a display on one port and power via the other.

I am also finding that there are a growing number of wireless displays - smart TVs etc that can connect to without any cables.

They do need to create a USB-C hub though and they need to sort the drivers. Will chase up HP support as a bit annoying

I'm dealing with HP's  Live Chat so- called support at the moment but they have no idea what I'm talking about and don't seem to be familiar with the product at all.

Looks like a bluetooth mouse is going to be the cheapest solution but it's a pretty poor performance on HP's part.  If I had known about these issues i would never have bought it. All laptops/notebooks need to connect to periferals it's a given

Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!

The reason the power-through port isn't working for your third party hubs is because HP uses software to block third-party power cables from working on the Spectre while it's powered on. They say they did this because USB-C power cables on the market are unreliable and they didn't want them to affect their users' experience.

You can use third party USB-C power cables while the tablet is asleep, though this defeats the purpose of having a multi-port hub.

Besides HP's product, can anyone recommend an inexpensive USB-C to HDMI adapter that works with the Spectre x2? I'd like to spend under $30.

I got the DELL adapter and it's working correctly on the right USB port but, when I try to use it on the left port, the external monitor shows up the images for a few seconds, then it flickers and loses the image, the weird part is that on "display settings" the external screen still appears to be connected even though it shows "no signal" sign . I've been wondering if this is normal  or if there is something wrong with it.

Since according to other posts, it seems that HP has limited aftermarket charging cables while not offering it's own pass through dongle solution, I've settled on a non charging device.  As I've posted previously, I've tried many with the Dell unit working for some time and then mysteriously dying...

I've been using the Hootoo unit (Hootoo HTUC002) for over a month with great results.  They offer another device with the charger but state quite clearly that it won't work with this computer so I ignored it.

The HT-UC002  has three USB ports, one SD card slot,  and an HDMI port that works fine as long as it is the first device plugged in.  I leave the otherUSB port oon the Spectre free to charge with the standard charger...

Hi Zippysparta

Are you able to use other ports for instance for wireless mouse on the HT-UC002 whilst using HDMI?

My external display only has dvi or vga so I'd need an HDMI adapter and wondering if this would still work. I've had HP support working on this for a month. I have explained the problem to about 5 different people and I'm still not sure they get it.

The latest reply I had was

We are working on your case and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for your support and co-operation.

How hard can it be to understand the problem and find a solution
