Hi! I recently reset my laptop using a windows usb drive and since then I have not been able to get any sound from the speakers in my laptop. Here is what I have tried so far:

  • Device Manager: there are no audio drivers listed, only a multimedia audio controlled listed under other devices. When I click on this it shows "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". A few other drivers are listed here as well.
    • I tried updating this driver by scanning automatically --> "Windows could not find a driver for your device"
    • I tried Windows Update: I have installed all required updates, there are a handful of Intel drivers in optional updates but I have not installed these since the last time I tried to it made the keyboard and touchpad unresponsive which is why I reset the laptop in the first place.
    • I tried deleting the driver and restarting the computer: this only placed the mulitmedia audio controller back under other devices.
    • HP.com does not list ANY software for my computer so I tried manually installing audio drivers for other hp spectre x360 listed and then repeating the above steps with no success.
  • HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics: I installed and ran the audio diagnostics in the UEFI Diagnostics boot partition with success, the audio functioned perfectly with no detected errors
  • HP Support Assistant: I checked and am up to date with the BIOS
  • External speaker: I tried usb headphones which also worked without error.

So the speakers function, but this seems to be a driver issue, yet no driver seems to exist. Please share any ideas you may have for how to move forward, thanks!Device Manager other devices.pngDeivce Manager Multimedia Audio Controller.pngDevice Manager update driver.png

(Solved!) I was able to get sound again by following the instructions here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio/No-audio-device-installed-no-audio-devices-shown-in-devi...

tldr: navigate to C:/SWSetup folder and going through each subfolder installing each driver with Device Manager open until the sound driver shows up as installed (for me this was sp110430 Conexant ISST Audio)

You're going to need this driver for the other devices in your screenshot:

Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver

sp148947.exe

SP72025 (Intel Chipset Device Software) was in my C:/Swsetup folder which I installed before the conexant driver, will I need sp148947.exe as well? Going through all the installs within that folder did manage to resolve the rest of the Other Devices listed.

The driver I posted is newer and if you already installed sp72025, and those devices in your screenshot were not installed by sp72025, you will need to install the driver I posted.
