HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I need help, brightness is at 100%, my eyes hurt.

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model: 15-e041ss, product number: E6Z59EA#ABE.

I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 pro (64 bits), clean installation (new SSD).

Installation went smoothly, once installed I added all windows updates available. That included some AMD updates.

However I realised I can not change the brightness, hot-keys don't work, and in menus or screen config, brightness doesn't appear.

I have searched in different forums and tried different solutions, no luck:

I downloaded HP support assistant, it did not show any updates for graphics, just network. Checked HP site, got a message telling that HP does not offer drivers for W10 for products sold before august 2013 (exactly when I bought my laptop)

AMD tool for drivers does not offer anything for my laptop and OS.

I tried using Snappy Driver Installer, installed the driver, but I it was not properly installed, in every boot I got an error telling me the driver is missing or not functioning correctly.

In device manager I could see two screen controllers, AMD Radeon HD 8600 series, and AMD HD 8650G.

Uninstalling all drivers from Device manager and using the basic one from Microsoft does make brightness control appear, BUT it doesn't work, brightness is always at 100%, I can't control it.

I truly can't look for long at it due to the brightness. Any ideas?

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if this W10 AMD switchable graphics driver works on your model.

If not, I suggest you go back to W8.1 while you still can.

Hello Paul,

As you suggested, I installed it. Laptop crashed half way through the installation (I was installing more stuff than the graphic driver), got a windows blue screen , screen did not turn on on the first boot (I panicked), on the second it kept twinkling for a while, but on the third, it worked!!!

Booting takes a bit longuer now, but my eyes are so relieved

I can't thank you enough, you sir, are awesome.

You're very welcome.

Glad the driver eventually worked for you.
