Does anyone know what all the non-Microsoft services do that I see in msconfig? We just purchased several new HP ProBook 470 G4s and I want to limit what runs in the background without uninstalling applications. Some are obvious, but some are not. I can include what services I'm seeing on these machines, if that would help. I've disabled just about everything, but I fear I've disabled too much. Despite that, two things still running in the system tray right now are "HP Client Security" and "HP Audio Controls," neither of which I need (at least I don't think so).
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello @tcfritz
Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.
Yes, I could help you identify the services. Please, tell me the list , post screenshots and I will guide you.
Regarding the HP Client Security - this is part of HP Client Security Manager - useful application which provides enhanced security services for free for business class devices (drive encryption, fingerprint login, etc...) . Here is a quick overview >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7DOznm1ezk
If you do not like or do not need it, you can safely uninstall HP Client Security Manager and security related apps.
HP Audio Controls is part of the audio drivers and audio support, therefore I recommend you leave it enable/running.

Thank you, IT_WinSec. I apologize for the delay in responding.
(1) I'd like to know which services/programs are critical and which I can live without, particularly those from HP and Intel.
(2) There seems to be two touchpad managers, one from Synaptics and one from HP. Do I need either?
(3) What are HP Velocity and HP WorkWise?
(4) With the exception of Google, Adobe and Dropbox, I'd like to know what the services that are running are.
(5) What's the Intel "Delayed Launcher"?
Thank you so much!!

Hello,
Here it is :
(3) , HP WorkWise > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaign/computersecurity/workwise.html
Personally, I would uninstall it if not used
HP Velocity > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/thin-clients/velocity.html
(2) Synaptics and HP Touchpoint manager are different. Here is more info > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/solutions/touchpoint-manager/overview.html
(5) Delayed launcher is an app which can manage the time of the launch of some apps or services - e.g. it is a small app which loads immediately along with Windows but it manages exactly when some other heavier components will load, later when your Windows is loaded - e.g. after 10 minutes of launch , after 30 minutes or as per config
(1) and (4) I would disable these:
- both of the Cyberlinks
- HP Touchpoint Manager
- HP WorkWise
- HP Accelerometer tray icon
- NVidia update backend
(Windows Update and Device Manager can automatically update your video card adapter whenever necessary, you do not need NVidia auto-update itself , this can cause more troubles)
I would also uncheck these (Services)
- HP JumpStart Bridge (startup and registration service)
- HP WorkWise service
All other are somewhat more essential and might be needed more often, therefore keep enabled.
