Hello,
I'm using HP Elitebook 840 g3(i5 6th gen) with windows 11 pro. I did all the things necessary for updated. I'm trying to update TPM from version 1.2 to 2.0. It is showing " An error occurred when attempting to prepare your computer TPM firmware update. The TPM firmware will not be updated" when I run the tmpconfig.exe.
Please help me.
Thank you.

@FallenOG,
I updated TPM to 2.0 on my Elitebook 840 G3 years ago and may be able to help you. Please provide me the following info:
1. Your current version of TPM 1.2 (There are three versions on 840 G3)
2. HP softpaq you used to get TPM FW bin file: sp81900 or sp87753 or something else
3. TPM FW bin file you used when you tried to update to 2.0

@FallenOG,
A TPM FW bin file you need is the one marked in the screenshot below. Go to C:\SWSetup\sp87753 and confirm it's there then right click on TPMConfig64 and click on Run as administrator. The update utility automatically detects the TPM1.2 version and proceed with the bin file to update to 2.0.
Before the update I strongly suggest you read the User's Guide. The update utility will clear the TPM so you need to disable, if used, any TPM-based security apps before the update. Also, the Virtualization Technology (VTx) needs to be disabled, too. let us know how it goes. Good luck.

If the drive is still encrypted, it needs to be decrypted. Did you read the "Warning" printed in red in the user's guide, which says Bitlocker, HP Sure Run, HP Sure Recovery and others need to be disabled.
The user's guide also says your drive has to be GPT-partitioned with UEFI boot mode. If you are not sure if it is on GPT or MBR, you need to run Disk Management.
One more thing. Go back to C:\SWSetup\sp 87753 to see if the update attempt created a log file, which should be listed below TPMconfig64, which may explain the error in details.
