Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (457S2AV)

Hi HP Community,

My HP laptop originally came with a genuine Microsoft Office Home & Student 2021 license. I recently reinstalled Windows, and after that Office started showing “Unlicensed Product.”

My Microsoft account still shows Office Home & Student 2021 as purchased and linked to my account. I have already:

  • Reinstalled Office from my Microsoft account
  • Signed in with the same Microsoft account
  • Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Office
  • Run Microsoft's Office activation troubleshooter
  • Contacted Microsoft Support

Microsoft Support checked the license and told me that the activation limit has been reached and that, because this was a pre-installed/OEM Office license, I need to contact HP to resolve the device activation issue.

Could someone from HP please advise me on how to restore/reactivate the original Office Home & Student 2021 license that came with my HP laptop?

I can provide my laptop model, serial number, proof of purchase, and Microsoft Support case number privately if required.

Thank you.

Hi  @VAMSI_MOHAN98

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand that after reinstalling Windows, your Microsoft Office Home & Student 2021 is showing as "Unlicensed Product", even though it is associated with your Microsoft account. I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have already completed.

To assist you further, kindly share the below details:

  • Whether Office was activated and working correctly before the Windows reinstallation
  • Are you seeing any specific activation error code or message in Office applications?
  • Was the Windows installation performed using HP Recovery Media, Cloud Recovery, or a standard Microsoft Windows installation?

In the meantime, you can try the below steps and confirm :

  1. Verify that you are signed in to Office using the same Microsoft account that shows the Office Home & Student 2021 license.
  2. Open any Office application (Word, Excel, etc.) and navigate to File -Account. Check whether the licensed product is displayed under Product Information.
  3. Sign out of all Office applications, restart the computer, and sign back in with the licensed Microsoft account.
  4. Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) tool to check for activation-related issues:
  5. Ensure Windows is activated by going to Settings -System -Activation, as Office activation can sometimes depend on proper Windows activation status.
  6. If available within your Microsoft account, verify whether the Office license is associated with the current device under Services & Subscriptions.

Additionally, Microsoft provides detailed guidance for Office activation issues - click here

I hope this helps.
