PC came with Microsoft Office but software won't activate

I recently purchased a HP Steam 11-ak0000 Laptop PC (8QY67AV). 

The PC came with a year's free access to Microsoft 365. When I open Microsoft Word, I get an offer to activate at the top of the screen. But when I click into it, I am only given the option to start a free trial, buy Office or to enter a product code. 

The serial number of the PC is and the product number is 3A0G6EA. I switched the laptop out of s mode before doing anything else, if that's relevant.

I've seen dozens of versions of this exact problem listed, but none ever seem to be resolved except by HP support sending a new Office product key via email, so I'm posting it again.
