@Bgh59, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re trying to open a webpage (maybe in Microsoft Edge?) and it gives you that “Hmmm… can’t reach this page” error, even though your internet connection seems fine. That’s super frustrating.
Here’s what could be going on — and a few steps to troubleshoot, especially if it’s a firewall issue:

🔍 Quick Checks

  1. Try a different browser (e.g., Chrome or Firefox):
    • If it works there, it might be a problem with Microsoft Edge settings or firewall rules specific to it.
  2. Try visiting different websites:
    • If some load and others don’t, it might be a DNS or blocked content issue.

🧱 Firewall Settings

Let’s see if Windows Defender Firewall is causing the problem:

🔧 Option 1: Allow the browser through the firewall

  1. Press Windows + S → type “Windows Defender Firewall” → Open.
  2. Click “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall”.
  3. Scroll down and find your browser (e.g., Microsoft Edge, Chrome).
  4. Make sure both Private and Public boxes are checked.
  5. Click OK and restart your browser.

🔧 Option 2: Temporarily disable the firewall to test

(Only for testing — don’t keep it off)

  1. Open Windows Defender Firewall.
  2. Click “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off” (left pane).
  3. Select Turn off for both settings.
  4. Try loading the site again.

If it works with the firewall off, then yes — it’s a firewall configuration issue.

🌐 DNS or Network Stack Reset

Sometimes it’s a caching issue or DNS problem. Run these commands in Command Prompt (Admin):

ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset

Then restart your computer.

🔌 Bonus Tip: Check Proxy Settings

  1. Open Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
  2. Make sure “Use a proxy server” is off, unless you specifically need one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
