Oh my goodness - is it something as simple as that?  What a run around!  That's a bit rubbish though that you can't use it with an external drive as most models now don't have an integral drive it seems to me.

 

Anyway, I've dowloaded the software you suggest and it works.  It's not great quality but better than nothing, so thank you.

Yep, unfortunately it has always been that way.

 

The HP Cyberlink PowerDVD software won't work unless the PC has in internal DVD drive.

 

I'm surprised the first version I gave you installed at all, and didn't give you the same notice as the newer version did.

 

It won't even work if you connected an external HP-branded DVD drive.
