I clean installed Windows 10 from an 'image' provided by Microsoft.
All works fine except the Fingerprint Sensor, which I think needs a driver.
I tried to find it through HP Support Assistant, but it was not possible to make any sense of it's Virtual Assistant.
Does anyone know where and how I might be able to find that driver?

Hi:
HP retired driver support for your notebook since it is more than 10 years old.
There was only a W7 driver for the fingerprint sensor hardware your notebook came with.
This reputable 3rd party website has the W7 driver you need for that.
Hopefully, it will work on W10.
Try manually installing the driver from the device in the device manager if the auto install fails to work.
Then you can try the W10 Simplepass software to use the fingerprint sensor if Windows Hello doesn't work.

You're very welcome.
I use that site all the time and have never found a virus in their files before.
I used the free 7-zip file utility to extract the sp54850 driver exe file into its folder and scanned the driver folder with Windows Defender and it found no virus.
I also checked the file folder and unfortunately, you cannot manually install the driver from the folder.
Hopefully the auto install method will work.
Otherwise, you may have to do without.
Can you post the hardware ID for the fingerprint device that needs the driver?

I have a HP 6930p notebook that also has the Authentec Fingerprint sensor, but it is an older hardware version, and I don't know if the W7 driver from the 6930p support page will work for yours.
I'm running W11 on my HP 6930p notebook and the W7 driver worked for mine.
