HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-aa0000 (7M3L2AV)

I'm having a lot of trouble with performance when it comes with my laptop. It has a dedicated 4050, as well as a 155h intel processor. I have been on an ongoing process with customer support online and over the phone to get this problem solved. I am a beginner computer science student and we use unity heavily to create minor video games for projects. I can boot up the program and have no problem what so ever until 2 or 3 minutes until it reaches a higher temperature. Declocking my processor to 0.80ghz, and my gpu to a very low clock. The problem is my tempatures are only reaching 74 degrees on the laptop before that begins.

This all traces back to the MyHp fan control app...

There are multiple settings ranging from- "Smart sense, performance, battery saver, and cool"

They all have a set throttle limit to it where if the temperatures reach the limit it under volts and de-clocks the CPU heavily instead of increasing fan speed.

In performance mode, the fans speeds are very audibly lower than in "Cool" mode, where the fan speed will go to 100% but unfortunately it undervolts and limits tasks on the cpu. This being said, its just upsetting that the laptop instead of increasing fan speed in performance mode will just declock the cpu at a very low thermal limit of 75 degrees. On the spec sheets for both the 155h intel cpu, the max tempature is 110 degrees, and the gpu's max tempature is 100 degrees. The battery's max tempature before wear is 85-90 degrees celcius. There is no sense for these cpu throttle limits, considering how much the cpu can perform if the fan speeds were just allowed to INCREASE.

All in all it just makes my laptop very slow in any situations with no relative fix to it and a bunch of locked potential because hp has locked bios, locked fan controls, and everytime i make a ticket i just get told to repair windows installation. I have documented my problems multiple times and am very willing to send in any screenshots to anyone willing to help. Although im certain the MyHp app is one hundred percent the culprit.

If there is any fixes out there, without being told to do "Dism, sfcscan" or any other window repairs, this is an HP problem and need to fix it in their software. Thank you for any concerns and replies.

Hi @Jibjammin,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing performance issues with your Laptop.

-Perform a power drain on your PC.

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and check if it boots into Windows now.

- Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
