Hello,

I am experiencing a persistent latency issue with the MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7922 adapter. The computer occasionally stops responding to mouse and keyboard inputs for several seconds, even when the system is nearly idle (no demanding software running).

I ran LatencyMon, which reports the following:

Conclusion: Your system seems to be having difficulty handling real-time audio and other tasks. You may experience drop outs, clicks or pops due to buffer underruns. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. At least one detected problem appears to be network related. In case you are using a WLAN adapter, try disabling it to get better results. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates.

Highest reported DPC routine execution time (μs): 1986.302605

This measurement was taken after reverting to driver version 3.3.0.814; prior times with version 3.4.0.1304 were ≈ 2500 μs or higher.

 

I have reverted the driver to version 3.3.0.814, which has improved the overall system stability and reduced the peak latency time. However, the LatencyMon warning persists, and noticeable input delays still occur, particularly when using the mouse.

Do you have any recommendations for a different, more stable driver version, or are there any other potential system-level measures (e.g., specific BIOS settings, power management tweaks) I should try to eliminate this latency?

Since reverting to version 3.3.0.814 brought partial relief, it’s worth exploring alternatives that may offer better DPC performance:

Before installing, please uninstall the current driver via Device Manager and reboot to ensure a clean transition.

 

BIOS and Power Management Tweaks

LatencyMon’s suggestion to adjust power settings is well worth exploring. Here’s how to fine-tune both BIOS and Windows settings:

1. Disable CPU Throttling in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and tap Esc or F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Power Management.
  • Look for settings like Intel SpeedStep, C-States, or Cool’n’Quiet (depending on BIOS version).
  • Disable these features to prevent aggressive power-saving behavior.
  • Save changes and exit.

 

2. Adjust Windows Power Plan

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select High Performance or create a custom plan.
  • Under Processor power management, set:
    • Minimum processor state: 100%
    • Maximum processor state: 100%
  • Disable USB selective suspend and PCI Express > Link State Power Management.

 

WLAN Adapter Optimization

To reduce DPC latency from the MediaTek adapter:

  • Open Device Manager > Network Adapters > MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7922.
  • Right-click > Properties > Advanced tab.
  • Set the following:
    • Roaming Aggressiveness: Low
    • Preferred Band: 5 GHz
    • Throughput Booster: Disabled
    • Power Saving Mode: Maximum Performance

 

Optional: Test Without WLAN

If you're comfortable doing so, temporarily disable the WLAN adapter and test system latency using Ethernet or offline mode. This can help isolate whether the adapter is the primary source of latency.
