Hello Community! I have been performing internet searches on this issue for weeks and I cannot seem to figure it out.

I recently ran into a software issue where my computer didn't boot so I reset it in a way which kept my files but uninstalled a lot of my programs and a lot of my drivers and custom stuff. I have, since then, installed many of the drivers back. I cannot however get my screen to change brightness. When I go to the display section, I do not see a brightness bar anymore. When I press the battery icon in the tray to bring up the menu to change brightness quickly in 25% incriments, as before, it is greyed out. I have tried searching for "display brightness driver" and stuff like that but haven't gotten anything. Can someone help?

Thanks for getting back to us.

The HP Update Software utility has been replaced by the HP Support Assistant in the newer operating system. HP recommends using HP Support Assistant to check for driver and PC updates.

Hope this answers your questions.

Let me know if there's anything else that I may help you with.

Have a great day!

Greetings!

Welcome to the HP Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, there's an issue with the system's brightness.

Appreciate you trying the troubleshooting steps. Don't worry I'm here to help!

Let's begin with re-install the display drivers -

1) In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
2) In Device Manager, expand Display Adapter.
3) Right-click on the Display Adapter, and then select Uninstall device > Delete the driver software for this device check box > Uninstall.
4) Restart the computer.

Download and install the display drivers from here.

If the issue still persists, try updating the computer using the steps mentioned below -

Step 1 Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Click on this link to run the troubleshooter.

Step 2 Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type
and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 HP Support Assistant Updates -
1) In the search box, type
and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Let me know how that goes.

Hi thanks for the reply! I tried to click the link to download the driver but the page came back as

We're sorry

HP Customer Support site is temporarily unavailable.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Please check back later.

Can I get another link? Also, my computer uninstalled HP Update in the same process. Can I get a link to install that as well?

Thanks!

Happy to hear back from you!

Thank you for trying the steps mentioned in the previous steps and I'm glad that it worked for you.

Looks like you could not install the updates from the HP Support Assistant. Here's the link to download and install the HP Support Assistant.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you for helping me download HP Support Assistant! However, before the restart, I had a separate program called "HP Update" version 5.005.002.002 installed and it helped me with updates from HP like bios and other things. It came with preloaded on my PC. Is there any way to get it back?
