Chrome OS

Since the upgrade to ChromeOS 113, thie device has become almost unusable.

 

The available RAM drops to 0.2 gb with nothing running and below 0.1 gb with just a few tabs in one browser window

 

I'm wondering if there is *anyone* who has tried to increase the onboard ram to 8 gb (yes, openning the device, desoldering, etc... and I know this is not something HP would endorse, but perhaps someone has tried...)

 

On the other hand, is there anyway to change it into an Android-only tablet?  Running Android apps on top of ChromeOS is not particularly better than Chrome apps.  The same goes for Linux, but it is easy to turn it into a pure Linux device; however, it's not obvious why that would work better than ChromeOS (and I cannot imagine it would be more efficient with ChromseOS Flex...)

 

I know this device is no longer supported in one year (June 2024 if there is no change of plans by the ChromeOS team).  Replacing it will be an option, but using it as a smaller secondary device was always my plan and that seems unrealistic and, i
