@EFLYNN, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

It sounds like you are experiencing inconsistent results with your battery tests and charging behavior. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

  1. Check Battery Health: Since you're getting conflicting results, it's important to make sure that the battery's health is accurately assessed. A battery that stops charging at a certain percentage could indicate wear or calibration issues.

  2. Calibrate the Battery: Sometimes, recalibrating the battery can help synchronize the system's read-out with the battery's actual charge level. To calibrate, you can fully charge the battery, then use the laptop on battery power until it completely drains and shuts down. Fully recharge the battery without interruption after it has fully drained.

  3. Inspect the Battery and Connections: Ensure that the battery is securely connected. If the model has a removable battery, remove and reseat it. Also, make sure the contacts are free from dust and debris.

  4. Examine the Power Adapter: Use a different power adapter that is compatible, if possible, to rule out any issues with the charging unit.

  5. Update BIOS and Drivers: Check for any updates for your BIOS or power management drivers using HP Support.

  6. Check Power Settings: Ensure that your power settings and battery management settings are configured correctly. You might want to set your system to the default power plan settings to see if this resolves the issue.

  7. Run Additional Diagnostics: If the problem persists, consider running additional diagnostics tools provided by HP to further diagnose hardware-related issues.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
