My HP ENVY - 17t-s100 CTO -- laptop came with the Power Director 14 installed that is a more recent version, much later than version 11, which I use regularly at work.
Problem –
I have downloaded the latest update off your site a few months ago.
This version 14 does not have the basic features such as the video speed adjustment feature which the 11 does have. None of the “Power Director “ help or help topics work. They won’t open in Adobe reader, despite having it installed on the computer.
Could you please update this version to the version 14 that has all the basic features it should have?
Many thanks for all your assistance.

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see from your post that you are having issues with the power director not working on your HP notebook. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
Have you tried to uninstall cyberlink software from the control panel?
Let's start off by performing a Hard Reset -
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.
3) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.
4) Plug-in the Adapter.
5) Try to turn on the computer.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -
Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.
Now try to perform Windows Updates -
1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
Uninstall the CyberLink software from control panel programs on your PC.
And install the Cyberlink power direct software using this link.
Also, you can install CyberLink software using HP recovery manager.
Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using HP recovery manager.
If the issue persists, you can check for software updates using HP support assistant.

Hi Jeet Singh,
One or two questions to clarify before I move forward?
1) I haven't recently made any hardware software changes except the normal regular automatic, Windows and Microsoft updates theat have been installed.
2) I havent yet tried uninstalling cyberlync from controll panel.
3) In your Hard Reset-- what does the Adapter refer to? All I have plugged into the laptop is the wireless keyboard & mouse USb plug, & the printer.
4) After holding down the power button-- which do I plug in or all of them?
5) Previously I installed an update from the HP Software and Driver Updates page. But now it looks like they only have the full program-- sp - 76338.
6) I just started to install this one when your answer came through so I decided to go your route first. In the beginning of the instalation is says it is deleting the one I have -- the DE and will install the HE program. What do these stand for? What is the difference?
many thanks for all the assistance -really appreciated.

Hi Jeet_Singh,
Thanks for all the directions. Sorry for the delay, this is first opportunuty to apply your suggestions
I have done everything to the "T" and there is no change at all.
The problem still persists as described originally--- " 1)This version 14 does not have the basic features i.e. Video speed adjustment feature which the 11 does have, and this is a more recent version.
2) None of the three“Power Director “ help or help topics under the "?" in top right corner of the program work. They won’t open in Adobe reader, despite having it installed on the computer. When one clicks on the -? it comes up with the following error--
" Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open 'power director_kwindex_dyn.html' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). It being an html file, it should open in Chrome which I am using.
Basically what I am asking is that HP supply the correct version 14 of Power Director.
Yours sincerely

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.
After reviewing your post thoroughly, I would suggest you try these steps here:
Run a Sfc scan on your PC:
In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Then click Yes.
In Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow. Make sure to include the space between sfc and the /.
Press Enter and wait while System File Checker scans for corrupted files.
When scanning is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.
If the file checker found and replaced any corrupted files, restart the computer and check the performance.
If the file checker did not find any corrupted files or found corrupted files but could not replace them, go to the next step.
If System File Checker finds corrupted files but cannot replace them, use the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. DISM checks the corrupted files; then downloads and replaces the files using Windows Update.
In Windows, open a web browser.
NOTE:
You need to be connected to the Internet to use DISM.
In Windows, search for Command Prompt. In the search results, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Then click Yes.
In Command Prompt, type dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth. Make sure to include the space before each / in the command line.
Press Enter and wait while DISM works. This might take several minutes.
If DISM finds corrupted files, it replaces them using Windows Update. If this occurs, after DISM is finished, restart your computer and see if the performance has improved.
If nothing helps, then the last option would be to perform a system reset on the pc. For more details, please follow this link: HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

Hi Jeet_Singh,
I have done the sfcscan and the report says--As per attached-- did not find any integrity violations.
So I didn't do the DISM tool.
After a restart of Power Producer it now has the video speed function active.
But there is no change in the help files not opening. I did more digging and testing of the Power Director 11 program, which I have installed on the same machine. I found that the Power Director help in version 11 is using the program -- "HTML Help Control Version 10.0. So the Version 14 of the program seems not to access it, but is trying to open the help in Adobe Acrobat.
All as per screen shots attached.
I trust this helps some?
