I have the following problem: the power led keeps blinking (5 times, then it stops for about 2 seconds), both when the PC is on and when it's off. Sincerly, I don't know if it drains the battery or not... Anyhow, there is no problem in turning the PC on and also the PC recharges correctly.
I just update the BIOS. Thanks for your help!

Hi @GaddoBid,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the power LED on your HP laptop blinks 5 times, even when the laptop is off, it could indicate a hardware issue. Blink codes are often used by laptops to indicate specific hardware problems during the Power-On Self-Test (POST) process. The number of blinks and their pattern can provide a clue to what might be causing the issue.
In this case, 5 blinks could potentially be related to issues with the laptop's motherboard, memory (RAM), or the CMOS battery. Here's what you can try:
- Reseating RAM: Sometimes, the RAM modules might not be properly seated. Try opening up your laptop (if you're comfortable doing so) and reseating the RAM modules in their slots. Make sure the laptop is disconnected from power and the battery is removed before attempting this.
- Check for Loose Connections: Ensure all internal connections, including hard drive cables, display cables, and other connections, are secure.
- Battery and AC Adapter: Sometimes power-related issues can trigger blink codes. Try disconnecting the laptop from the power adapter, removing the battery, and then holding down the power button for around 20 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and power adapter and see if the issue persists.
- CMOS Battery: The CMOS battery provides power to the laptop's BIOS memory and helps maintain system settings. If it's failing, it could cause unusual behavior. Replacing the CMOS battery might solve the issue.
- Hardware Diagnostics: Many HP laptops have built-in hardware diagnostics. You can access these by pressing specific key combinations during startup. Refer to your laptop's manual for the correct key combination. Running diagnostics might help pinpoint the exact hardware problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
