Hi @DanP93,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Notebook is able to print wirelessly to your HP Deskjet 3512 e-All-In-One Printer but is having trouble connecting for scanning, there might be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem.
- Check Wireless Connection: Ensure that both your HP Notebook and HP Deskjet 3512 printer are connected to the same wireless network. If they are not on the same network, the scanning function might not work. You can check the network settings on both devices and reconnect them to the same Wi-Fi network if necessary.
- Update Drivers and Software: Outdated printer drivers or software on your HP Notebook can sometimes cause issues with scanning. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers and software for your HP Deskjet 3512 printer, specifically for your HP Notebook's operating system.
- Restart Devices: Sometimes, technical glitches can be resolved by simply restarting the devices. Turn off your HP Notebook and HP Deskjet 3512 printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
- Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a free utility called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" that can diagnose and resolve common printing and scanning issues. Download and run this tool on your HP Notebook to see if it can detect and fix any problems with the scanning function.
- Firewall and Antivirus Software: In some cases, firewall or antivirus settings on your HP Notebook might block the communication between the computer and the printer, causing the scan function to fail. Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software, and then try scanning again to see if the issue is resolved. If it works, reconfigure the firewall or antivirus settings to allow communication between the devices.
- Check Scanner Settings: On your HP Notebook, open the scanning software (such as HP Scan) and make sure it is configured to recognize the HP Deskjet 3512 as the default scanner. Sometimes, the scanning software might be set to use a different scanning device, which could lead to the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
