Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb3000 (A8RU3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When I tried to press < and >, I realized that on my keyboard that key is located o to the L key.

I’ve tried the combinations Alt+L, AltGr+L, Shift+Alt+L, Shift+AltGr+L, FN+L, and Shift+FN+L.
I’ve been searching and honestly can’t find anything. I have the keyboard set to Spanish (Spain), and I’m not sure if changing that could fix it, but I really need to use the < and > keys very often in my daily work, and right now I can only type them using ASCII codes.

The issue is that those symbols should be located where the Copilot button is on my keyboard.
If the Copilot key didn’t exist and those two symbols were there instead, it would be much better — I don’t really use Copilot that much anyway.

Does anyone know how to press them?

Please, I really need help!!!

Hi @danig4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your Victus by HP 15-fb3000 keyboard is not producing the < and > symbols from the key located next to the L key, making it difficult to type them regularly. Let’s go through a few steps to check and resolve this.

a. Verify Keyboard Layout

Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Preferred languages.

Ensure Spanish (Spain) is selected and check the Keyboard layout matches Spanish (Spain).

Some HP gaming keyboards may require Spanish (Latin America) or another variant for certain symbols.

b. Use Shift and AltGr Keys

On Spanish keyboards, < and > are often typed using:

Shift + key next to L for >

AltGr + key next to L for <

Test these combinations after confirming the layout is correct.

c. Test in On-Screen Keyboard

Press Win + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.

Check what key combinations produce < and > with your current layout.

d. Remap the Copilot Key (Optional)

Since the Copilot key is taking the position of < and >, you can use PowerToys Keyboard Manager:

Download and open Microsoft PowerToys.

Navigate to Keyboard Manager → Remap a Key.

Remap the Copilot key to output < and > when pressed with Shift or AltGr.

e. Test After Changes

Open a text editor and try typing < and > using the verified or remapped keys.

Ensure other keys are unaffected and the symbols appear correctly.

f. Alternative Temporary Workaround

Use Alt codes:

< = Alt + 60

> = Alt + 62

Or copy/paste from a character map until remapping is completed.

I hope this helps.

I try all that, the only things thats works is using the ASCII code to put that keys.

The remap with PowerToys only allows me to assign the Copilot key to a single symbol, that is, I can only put > or <, not put both with the same copilot key.

In addition to that, what I want is for the configuration that it is supposed to be to work (FN+L, AltGr+L or whatever), I don't understand why it has a problem as serious as not being able to put 2 characters that in principle I can't There should be a problem with it, I demand a solution.

I've had this problem since I had my laptop and they still haven't given me a real solution. I want to know if they will be able to fix it or if I have to take it to the store where I bought it with the warranty, thank you

Hi @danig4,

Thank you for sharing more details, I completely understand your frustration. Being unable to type such essential characters like < and > on a daily basis is definitely not acceptable, especially when those keys are supposed to work with your keyboard layout.

Since the usual combinations like AltGr + key next to L, Shift + key, FN + L, and keyboard layout checks did not work — and PowerToys only allows mapping the Copilot key to one symbol at a time — this is no longer just a software setting issue. It may be related to:

The keyboard firmware does not correctly map the key due to the Copilot button replacing the original <> key.

The Spanish (Spain) layout used by Windows does not match the hardware layout HP placed on this model.

A keyboard firmware or driver issue may be blocking FN / AltGr mapping for this key.

In rare cases, it can be a hardware design limitation on this specific model if HP replaced that key with Copilot without providing a software alternative.

1. Test With Another Keyboard Layout

Go to Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region

Add one of these temporarily:

Spanish (Latin America)

United States–International

Switch between them with Win + Spacebar

Test the key again.

2. Use Key Testing Tools

Open KeyboardTester.com or Windows On-Screen Keyboard.

Press the key next to L with different combinations (Shift, FN, AltGr).

If the key does not register anything (no scan code), it confirms firmware/hardware limitation.

I hope this helps.

No, nothing helps me, i tried on the website keyboardTester.com and it only put L with all the combinations you say, the copilot key is like a combination of Shift+Win+Alt+F23 or something like that.

I also tried switching the spanish latin-american configuration early and it doesnt work. There is some option to resolve my problem or not? Im tired of trying things

Hey bro, i had the same problem. I managed to fix it by using the PowerToys Keyboard Manager, but instead of remapping the key, using the Remapping Hotkey. This works because the Copilot key is actually sending LWin+LShift+F23 combination... By remapping it to < key, it works both < (copilot key) and > (Shift+copilot key)

Hope it works for you guys, and looking forward to receive a patch for the keyboard driver that handles the Fn+L and Fn+Shift+L combinations.

Cheers,
