HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 (4V791AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I purchased the GP70N (HP P/N 864979-001) I saw that many people is having the same Issue with this Items or External DVD, I saw the previous answer about Windows+ X them Devices Manger, on Drivers, select Reinstall.... Etc, Etc.

But I still with the Issue. I purchased my Laptop with original Windows 11 Model: HP 17 Laptop PC 17-c2000 (4v791AV),  Still being blocked due to Windows 11.

I don't really understand what is the real problem because both Items Laptop and External Dvd drive are the same Brand......Any other Way to Help?

Hi @Marvin241083

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. Since you have already reinstalled the drivers and the HP GP70N external DVD drive is still not working with your HP 17-c2000 Windows 11 laptop, let's focus on additional troubleshooting.

Disconnect the GP70N drive and shut down the laptop completely.

Power on the laptop and connect the GP70N directly to a USB port on the notebook. Avoid using USB hubs, adapters, docking stations, or extension cables during testing.

Try a different USB port on the laptop. If available, test both USB-A and USB-C ports (using the original HP cable/adapter supplied with the drive).

Press Windows + X and open Device Manager.

  • Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • If the GP70N appears with a warning symbol, right-click it and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the notebook and reconnect the drive.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Turn the notebook off.
  • Power it on and repeatedly tap F2.
  • Run the Component Tests for USB ports to confirm the ports are functioning correctly.

Check for HP and Windows updates:

  • Install the latest BIOS available for the HP 17-c2000 model.
  • Install all optional Windows 11 updates, including hardware and driver updates.
  • Restart and test the DVD drive again.

Test with a known-good DVD disc to confirm the issue is not media-related.

If possible, connect the GP70N drive to another Windows computer. This helps determine whether the behavior is related to the notebook environment or the external drive itself.

To better understand the current behavior, please confirm:

  • Does the GP70N appear in Device Manager?
  • Does it appear in File Explorer?
  • Is there any error message or error code displayed?
  • Does the drive power on and eject/open normally?

This information will help us identify the next troubleshooting step.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
