Omen laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

There is a program installed by default

"C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID "TH93U470WD:NW" -scfn "HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series (NET)" -AutoStart 1

It doesn't show in the startup programs -- until I remove the quotes around "TH93U470WD:NW".

Once I do that it will load and shows in the task manger startup programs.

But any time there is a software update, the quotes are back.

Why would this happen?  Am I the only one with this issue and so HP hasn't seen to address it as yet?

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • What is the exact model for your computer?

I have the HP OfficeJet 9010 attached.

I use a startup manager, StartEd (Outertech.com) that lists all programs included in the startup -- HKCY, HKLM, AllUsers Startup, and User Startup.

It shows the program "C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID "TH93U470WD:NW" -scfn "HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series (NET)" -AutoStart 1, labeled "HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series (NET)".

I fI leave this as installed (by HP during printer setup, it does not show the program as existing, even though the startup command is there.

If however I remove the quotes around "TH93U470WD:NW", the program then shows in the listing.

I cannot find anywhere the purpose or existence of the program in the task manger, regardless of whether it is showing as installed or not.

What is this program's purpose?  Is this program necessary?  Is there any way to determine that it is in fact launched at startup?

CWBillow,

I recommend you check in the task manager whether the program shows in the startup tab. If it is showing there it means that it is loading in the startup. If you wish you can remove it from the startup programs as it is the printer full feature software.

I hope that answers your question.

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
