Hi @vipi1988,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

The I2C HID device error on your HP PC usually relates to issues with the touchscreen or touchpad, especially when the device shows a yellow warning icon in Device Manager or disappears entirely. I know how frustrating it can be when your input devices stop working. Let’s fix this together.

1. Re-enable the I2C HID Device

If the device is visible in Device Manager:

  1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
  3. Right-click on I2C HID Device (with a yellow warning icon).
  4. Select Disable, then right-click again and choose Enable.

2. Update the Touchpad or HID Driver

  1. Visit Official HP® Support.
  2. Enter your laptop model number (if you’re unsure, I can help you identify it).
  3. Download and install the latest Touchpad, Chipset, and BIOS updates.

3. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware failure:

  1. Restart your PC and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  2. Run the Touchscreen or Input Devices test.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears temporary glitches:

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Unplug the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and turn it on.

5. Use Windows Update

Sometimes Microsoft provides updated drivers:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
  • Install all available updates and restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
