Hi Paul,
Just a quick note to say a massive thank you for all your help over the past couple of weeks. Without your input, I reckon I’d still be sat staring at a lifeless HP logo, muttering dark things under my breath and questioning my life choices.
In the end, we couldn’t get the VMD driver to install properly Windows kept spitting it back out like a bad pint. But oddly enough, just having the version you pointed me to seemed to do the trick. It let Gandalf’s PE environment boot, and once that loaded and connected to the internet, it was like someone opened a bloody window in a stuffy pub.
From there, I managed to wrestle the system back to life. Took some creative workarounds, about a gallon of coffee, and the patience of a saint, but she’s back. Stable, running, and with a shiny new System Restore point in case she throws another wobbly.
That said, I do want to publicly call out HP and Intel for what I can only describe as utterly unhelpful behaviour. The decision to lock down or remove access to critical VMD and RAID drivers especially for machines still well within their usable life is nothing short of shameful. It turned what should’ve been a simple recovery into a twelve-day slog. There's no technical justification for hiding essential tools from the very users they claim to support
I’ll be setting up HP Cloud Recovery on a USB so I’ve always got a parachute next time HP decides to go rogue. But seriously your advice made a real difference. You clearly know your stuff and actually give a **bleep**, which is rare enough these days to deserve a proper nod.
So cheers again. From one stubborn Yorkshireman to someone who clearly has the patience of a Jedi...thank you.
Best,
Steve Green
