I work in real estate and also handle around 800 homes. My daily tasks are simple, I am also checking plans, confirming takeoff files, and preparing estimates. Yet my HP laptop lags even with small files or basic apps. I realized it’s the HP background services and Windows tasks using RAM and CPU. If anyone fixed this, please guide me.

Hi @Michealcaine,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To understand what’s really causing the slowdown, a few details would help:

  • What model of HP laptop are you using (CPU, RAM, storage type)
  • Does the lag happen immediately after startup, or only after you’ve been working for a while
  • Which HP background services are using the most CPU/RAM
  • Are you running any estimating or plan‑review software that might be heavy in the background
  • Is your storage close to full

A few troubleshooting steps you can try

1. Disable unnecessary HP background services

HP installs several utilities that aren’t essential for daily work.

You can safely disable things like:

  • HP Analytics
  • HP Support Solutions Framework
  • HP Smart App (if you don’t use HP printers)

Use Task Manager → Startup and disable anything HP‑related that you don’t need.

2. Check for Windows indexing overload

If Windows Search Indexing is stuck, it can eat CPU and disk.

Try:

  1. Open Services
  2. Find Windows Search
  3. Right‑click → Restart
  4. If the issue persists, temporarily set it to Manual

3. Update BIOS and drivers

Sometimes HP firmware causes high background usage.
Updating through HP Support Assistant can help

5. Turn off background apps you don’t use

Go to: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Background apps permissions

Set most apps to Never unless you rely on them.

7. Run a quick health check

Open Command Prompt as admin and run:

sfc /scannow

This fixes corrupted system files that sometimes cause high CPU usage.

If you can share your laptop model and what exactly is spiking in Task Manager, I can help you figure out the fastest way to get your system running smoothly again.

I hope this helps.
