@Turnup, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Frequent Realtek driver updates—especially for audio, LAN, or card reader drivers—can happen for a few reasons, and it's not uncommon on HP laptops running Windows 11. Here's why you're likely seeing 2–3 Realtek updates weekly:

Possible Reasons for Frequent Updates:

Windows Update Behavior:
Windows Update can reinstall the same Realtek driver if:

  • HP or Realtek released a revised version with a minor change.
  • The update metadata changes, even if the driver version stays the same.
  • Rollbacks happen due to compatibility or signing issues.
  • HP Support Assistant:
HP Support Assistant can re-push updates if it detects even slight variations in hardware IDs or registry entries—even if the driver is already current.

Multiple Realtek Components:
Your laptop likely uses:

  • Realtek Audio Driver
  • Realtek LAN (Ethernet) Driver
  • Realtek Card Reader Driver
Each of these can get separate updates, and their versioning isn't always synchronized.
  • Driver Conflicts or Incorrect Installs:
If the driver doesn’t install correctly or fails to register all its components, Windows may try to reapply it repeatedly.
  • Optional Updates Installed Automatically:
Windows 11 might auto-install optional driver updates if you haven’t disabled that behavior in Group Policy or via settings.

What You Can Do:

Option 1: Pause Automatic Driver Updates

Go to Device Installation Settings:

  • Press Win + R, type sysdm.cpl, hit Enter.
  • Go to Hardware tab > Device Installation Settings.
  • Choose "No (your device might not work as expected)".

This stops Windows from installing drivers via Windows Update.

Option 2: Use HP Drivers Only

  • Download and install the latest Realtek drivers from HP official website:
  • This ensures you're on the version HP has tested for your model.

Option 3: Block Repeating Driver with PowerShell

  • You can find the repeat-offending driver and hide it using the wushowhide.diagcab tool from Microsoft.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
