Hi! I've had an hp envy x360 2 in 1 laptop 15-ey0013dx and a hp mpp 1.51 pen for a few years now and for the most part everything has gone smoothly. Until last week when my hinge broke, causing the screen to start peeling away from the back plate and make an awful crunching noise. So naturally I took it to get fixed ASAP because I didn't want any further damage to the screen since I use this thing for drawing. Turns out, hp envy's aren't made to be fixed. in the process of trying to replace my hinges and back panel, the repair tech damaged my screen so we ended up having to replace it anyway. Now, a week later and with 200 less dollars to my name, I am armed with a new screen, new hinges, and a new back panel and I'm ready to get back to drawing again. Unfortunately for me, upon opening Clip Studio Paint I discovered that my pen didn't wanna do that and instead wanted to act crazy.

Testing my pen in other applications, it continued to act strange. it's behaving as if it is multiple fingers pressing the screen. If I hold my pen nib against the screen for a few seconds, the little grey touch dot indicators light up in little bursts along a straight line across my screen and don't stop until I remove my pen. If I try swiping my pen to draw in MS paint it leaves straight lines and again flashes those touch dots. If I try swiping my pen on an open browser window, it swipes back to take me to the last page I was on. If I swipe my pen on my desktop, it moves my icons around the screen at random. Sometimes if even resizes windows. It'll do just about anything but draw in CSP, which is quite literally the only reason I have it.

Yes I have tried restarting my computer. Yes I have tried updating windows. I finally finally finally found the calibration settings in control panel, but they didn't work. When I tapped my pen against the screen like instructed, nothing happened. I know my pen is powered on because if I take the battery out it does literally nothing when touching my screen. I've replaced the battery, still acting weird. I know this pen works with this laptop, I've been using it this way for literal years, I just completed an illustration with it last week. I don't know what else to do, it's genuinely just registering the pen touch as if it's a finger and going crazy. The only thing that's changed is my screen being replaced. Please help.

@Holli-I-Guess, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP MPP Pen Issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check Compatibility: Ensure that the replacement screen is compatible with the HP Pen technology. Sometimes, third-party screens may not support all features of HP pens.

Update Drivers: Make sure that all your drivers, especially those related to the touch screen and pen input, are up to date. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.

Calibrate the Touch Screen: Recalibrate the touch screen to ensure that it properly detects pen input.

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and adjust the pen settings.
  • You may also need to recalibrate the touch screen if the pen's responsiveness is affected.

Reset Pen Settings: Sometimes restoring pen settings to default can help resolve strange behavior.

  • Disconnect the pen from Bluetooth (if applicable) and reconnect it.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the pen for any physical damage that might have occurred during the screen replacement or hinge repair.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

wow I sure do love getting the same, likely ai, automated response that has been posted under every other screen replacement forum question on this website, it sure was super helpful to read it a 50th time over. I just updated any driver I could think of that would affect this pen, I even updated my BIOS. Still nothing. As I've stated, calibration isn't working, my screen is detecting pen input as finger input so calibration is impossible. I will contact the repair tech that did the screen replacement to see if it's maybe a 3rd party screen, but other than that I'm just really not sure what to do. I can't afford another screen replacement and even if I could is there even a way to purchase first party parts directly from HP???? Especially considering the Envy x360 is a few years old at this point, is HP even still making replacement parts?

A DM where you tell me to contact phone support that costs a minimum of 20 dollars to even access is not an acceptable solution. Try again.
