I use Microsoft Excel a lot and as a result I need direct access to the F2 / F5 keys etc. but currently on my HP Pavillion Plus 14, pressing the key directly is locked to the function keys (volume, brightness) and I have to hold FN to use the actual F2 key.
This is incredibly difficult to work with so i want to be able to flip this the other way. I've searched around this forum, HP support and the user guide for this issue.

Is anyone able to help with this?

Hi @beelees,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To reverse the FN (Function) and action keys' functionality on your HP Pavilion Plus 14, you generally need to access the BIOS settings. The common steps involve restarting your computer and pressing a specific key F10 as it starts up to enter the BIOS setup. Once in the BIOS, look for a System Configuration tab or similar, where you can find an option like "Action Keys Mode" or "Function Key Behavior." Changing this setting will allow the function keys to act as F1-F12 by default, and you'll need to press FN to use the special functions (volume, brightness, etc.).
Since the exact steps can vary by model and BIOS version, it's crucial to refer to your laptop's specific user guide or HP's official support website for precise instructions tailored to your model. Please click here to access the manual.
Once you click on the link and put the serial number.
Please click on the user guide and the manual will open.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
