SD drives are not read in my new Victus laptop. Installed and uninstalled drives.. Shut on and off system... Still nothing, larger cards it reads but not smaller ones. Why have an internal SD slot and it not be able to read anything?
I used multiple cards, cameras, cords.... everything points back to a software error.... THIS IS BAD
it won't even read SD readers with proper drivers!
UPDATES ARE NEEDED ASAP.

Hi @Roxy410
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with an SD card reader that refuses to recognize smaller cards, especially when larger ones work fine. Since you've already tried multiple cards, cameras, and cables, let's go through some HP-specific troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
1. Check for Driver Updates
- Open Device Manager (Windows + X > Device Manager).
- Expand Memory Technology Devices or SD Host Adapters.
- Right-click the SD card reader and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
2. Install HP-Specific SD Card Reader Driver
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your Victus laptop model.
- Download and install the latest Realtek Card Reader Driver.
3. Assign a Drive Letter
- Open Disk Management (Windows + X > Disk Management).
- Locate the SD card (if detected but not accessible).
- Right-click and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
- Assign a new drive letter.
4. Check Windows 11 Compatibility
- Some users have reported SD card reader issues after Windows 11 updates.
- If your laptop is running Windows 11 23H2, check if HP has released a new driver update.
5. Perform a Clean Driver Installation
- Uninstall the SD card reader driver from Device Manager.
- Restart your laptop.
- Reinstall the driver from HP’s official site.
6. Test with an External SD Card Reader
- If your laptop does not recognize external SD readers, it may be a Windows software issue.
- Try booting into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Enable Safe Mode) and test the SD reader.
