Hi @bob6788,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Is the SD card reader completely missing from Device Manager, or does it show up with an error symbol?
  • Have you tried different microSD cards to rule out a card issue?
  • the exact model of your HP laptop?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Steps to Fix SD Card Reader Driver Issues

  • Check Device Manager:
    1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
    2. Look under Memory technology devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers for the SD card reader.
    3. If you see it with a yellow warning icon, right-click → Update driver.
  • Run Windows Update:
Sometimes Windows automatically installs missing drivers. Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update and check for updates.
  • HP Support Assistant:
If installed, open HP Support Assistant and run a check for driver updates. This tool often finds the correct drivers for HP hardware.
  • Manual Driver Installation:
If the reader is missing, you may need to download the driver directly from the https://support.hp.com/in-en
  • Hardware Check:
If the driver is installed but the reader still doesn’t detect cards, try cleaning the slot gently and testing with another card to rule out hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Hi @bob6788,

Thanks for your response.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec0xxx series does not include a built-in SD card reader. This model line focuses on gaming performance and typically comes with ports such as USB Type-A, USB Type-C, HDMI, RJ-45 Ethernet.

 I hope this helps.

Hi @bob6788

Thanks for confirming.

Deep_World is away for now; however, I'm Hawks_Eye, and I'll be happy to help you out!

Here are the steps you can follow to resolve the SD card reader driver issue on your Windows 11 (Version 22H2, Build 19045.6691) system:

Step 1: Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Memory technology devices or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  3. Look for the SD card reader entry. If it shows a yellow triangle or is missing, the driver is not installed or corrupted.

Step 2: Run Windows Update

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Click Check for updates.
    • Windows may automatically detect and install the missing driver.

Step 3: Use HP App (formerly HP Smart)

  1. Open the HP App from the Start menu.
  2. Navigate to Support > Diagnose & Fix.
  3. Run the tool to automatically detect and repair driver issues.
    • This will check for missing or outdated drivers and reinstall them if needed.

Step 4: Manually Update Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click the SD card reader entry (if visible).
  2. Select Update driver.
  3. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
    • If Windows doesn’t find one, select Browse my computer for drivers and point to the folder where HP drivers are stored (usually C:\SWSetup).

Step 5: Verify BIOS Settings

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Check if the Internal SD Card Reader is enabled.
  3. Save changes and restart.

Step 6: Test with Another SD Card

  • Insert a different microSD card to confirm whether the issue is with the reader or the card itself.

If the SD card reader still doesn’t appear after these steps, reinstalling the chipset drivers from your system’s support page is the next step. This ensures the hardware controller is properly recognized by Windows.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
