I bought a laptop recently and I have noticed a security error in the Event Viewer.

It says:

SECURITY WARNING -- Configuration File 'C:\ProgramData\HP\HP Touchpoint Analytics Client\config.json' has been tampered with! It will be deleted.

There is another error which says the same thing few days later. Otherwise my laptop runs fine. I did not visit any weird sites and my anti virus does not detect anything.

What does this mean exactly? Is this a clear sign that my laptop has been accessed and tampered with or am I getting worried about nothing?

The software can be removed.

I do not have an explanation for the error in the Event Viewer.

This analytic software is outside of our control and general information base.

It is not mandatory software and can be removed.

Original Content

Eliminate the error by removing the Touchpoint bits and then uninstall the software.

Make it Stop

Windows key + R

type into the little run box: services.msc

OR

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Double-tap Services

Search the Services list for HP Touchpoint Analytics

If the service is "running", Right-Click on the service and Stop

Double-Tap on the Touchpoint Service > Properties > tab General

Startup type (drop down menu) > Select Disabled

Uninstall

Windows key + R

type into the little run box: appwiz.cpl

OR

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Search the list for HP Touchpoint Analytics

If you find it, tap the name of the program and Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in

I am not worried about the program itself. What I am worried about is the security warning in the Event Viewer.

Understood.

I edited my previous post.

I don't have an explanation.

You can ignore the error or dismantle (disable and uninstall) the software.

The error is not something about which you need be concerned.

Were it me, I'd remove the software.

Stay Safe.
