I have a new HP Laptop 15s-fq0004na (893F7EA) I want to setup for my grandchild. It comes with Windows 11 Home in S mode and a Microsoft 365 Personal 1 year subscription included. Is it possible to set up with a parental admin account then create a child account that uses the Microsoft 365 Personal 1 year subscription. I don’t want to lock the MS 365 to the parental account and not have it for the child, by doing things in the wrong order. What is the process?

Hi @number5of8,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Setting up a new laptop for a child with parental controls and ensuring that the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is available for the child account involves a few key steps. Here’s how you can do it:
Step 1: Initial Setup
- Turn on the Laptop:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Windows 11 Home in S mode.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network and allow the initial setup to complete.
Step 2: Create a Microsoft Account for the Child
- Visit the Microsoft Account website:
- Go to the Microsoft account sign-up page.
- Create a new Microsoft account for your grandchild. This will be the child’s account that they will use to sign in to the laptop and access Microsoft 365.
Step 3: Set Up Parental Controls
Create a Child Account on the Laptop:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Click on Add a family member and choose Add a child.
- Enter the child’s Microsoft account email address that you created in Step 2 and follow the prompts to add the account to the laptop.
Set Up Parental Controls:
- Go to the Microsoft Family Safety website.
- Sign in with your (parental) Microsoft account.
- Add your grandchild’s Microsoft account to your family group.
- Set up the appropriate parental controls, such as screen time limits, content restrictions, and activity reports.
Step 4: Activate Microsoft 365 Personal Subscription
Sign in with the Parental Account:
- Use the parental Microsoft account to sign in to the laptop.
- Redeem and activate the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription included with the laptop.
Share the Microsoft 365 Subscription:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 account management page.
- Under the Microsoft 365 subscription section, look for an option to share the subscription.
- Add your grandchild’s Microsoft account to share the subscription with them.
Step 5: Verify Access on the Child Account
- Sign in with the Child Account:
- Log out of the parental account and sign in to the child account on the laptop.
- Open any Microsoft 365 app (like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) to ensure that the subscription is recognized and active for the child’s account.
Step 6: Install Microsoft Family Safety App (Optional)
- Install the Microsoft Family Safety App:
- You can install the Microsoft Family Safety app on your devices to monitor and manage your grandchild’s activity and safety settings on the go.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
