Hi @Mal76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you might be referring to an HP Laptop 14-cf2xxx model having issues with the scanner function of your HP Smart Tank 7301 printer. If this is the case, let's ensure your laptop and printer are properly configured to work together for scanning. Here are detailed steps to troubleshoot and resolve the scanning issue on your HP Laptop 14-cf2xxx:

Step 1: Check Printer and Laptop Connection

  • If using USB: Verify that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop.
  • If using Wi-Fi: Ensure both the laptop and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Turn off the printer and laptop, wait for 30 seconds, then turn them back on.

Step 2: Install/Update HP Smart App

  • Go to the HP Smart App page on the Microsoft Store, download, and install the app.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed.
  • Open HP Smart, click on "Add Printer" and follow the instructions to add your HP Smart Tank 7301.

Step 3: Use HP Smart to Scan

  • Launch the HP Smart app on your laptop. In the HP Smart app, click on the "Scan" tile.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the scan.

Step 4: Check and Update Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support page and search for drivers for your HP Smart Tank 7301.Download and install the latest drivers.
  • If the issue persists, uninstall the existing printer drivers via Device Manager.Restart your laptop.Reinstall the latest drivers you downloaded.

Step 5: Use Windows Scan App:

  • Type "Scan" in the Windows search bar and open the Windows Scan app.Follow the prompts to scan your document.

Step 6: Check Windows Services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate and restart the following services:
    • Print Spooler Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) HP Network Devices Support (if available)

Step 7: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix scanning issues.

Step 8: Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

  • Ensure your firewall or antivirus software isn't blocking the HP scanning software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
